La Ferrovia Circumetnea è una ferroria italiana a scartamento ridotto che collega Catania a Riposto, progettata nel 1895-98.
La linea doveva essere costruita secondo il tipo 4 delle ferrovie economiche previste dalla legge e a binario unico. Le stazioni furono progettate in stile italiano, con colorazioni che andavano dal giallo ocra al rosso mattone.
Nel 1937 vennero acquistate 6 automotrici Fiat del tipo ALn56 (chiamate littorine) economiche, bassi costi di esercizio e con una velocità più elevata. La littorina, che andò a sostituire le prime vaporiere della fine del XIX secolo, segnerà particolarmente la storia della ferrovia, tanto che il trenino della Circumetnea viene ancora chiamato dalle persone più anziane o dalla gente dei luoghi attraversati 'a Litturina.
Negli anni '90 per consentire l'impiantazione del cantiere di Piazza Galatea, punto di inizio dell'interramento per la trasformazione in metropolitana. Di conseguenza fino al 1999 Corso Italia divenne il punto di origine dei treni. Il tratto parzialmente interrato, da Porto a Borgo, fu inaugurato nel 1999 divenendo la prima metropolitana vera e propria della Sicilia.

The Circumetnea Railway is an Italian narrow gauge railway that connects Catania to Riposto, designed in 1895-98.
