QUEENSGATE

Formerly Westfield Queensgate, Queensgate Shopping Centre was first opened in 1986, was expanded in 1991, then underwent further expansion in 2006, doubling the size of the centre and providing a bigger carpark. With over 140 stores, Queensgate has an annual turnover of NZ$202.5 million.

Parts of the mall, including the movie theatre and the north-east side of the car park, were damaged as a result of the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake and demolished. The rebuild was completed late 2022, and the new Event Cinemas opened in December 2022, and is one of only two cinemas nationwide that offers the IMAX experience.
