Virginia State Parks have been very supportive of geocaching, so let's get together for an hour at one of the newest parks, Powhatan State Park, and celebrate their contribution to the activity we love. We'll meet at Picnic Shelter 1. Bring a picnic lunch; I will provide drinks and dessert. After lunch, anyone who wants to can head off to seek some of the several caches that are in the park.
Here is the link to a bookmark list of all the caches in the park. A number of these are puzzle caches, so you may wish to preview before you come!
All state parks charge a parking fee, so be sure to bring your park pass or be prepared to pay at the fee entrance. As of publication of this listing, the parking fee at Powhatan State Park is $4.
NOTE: This event will go rain or shine, and if the ranger cancels again, we will nevertheless hold the event, and I will just pick up my Master Hiker certificate some other time, without ceremony. We'll not try to mess with a third try at this!
This event follows the Master Hiker Ceremony for cphenly. This award is for having visited and hiked in (and cached in!, though that is not a State Parks requirement) every state park (including Sweet Run Park, which isn't even open yet). The Master Hiker Ceremony, which you may attend if you wish, is not part of the event. You are welcome to attend the ceremony, but you are welcome to the picnic event regardless!
Hope to see you there!
