The Smith Property is a local go-to spot for an easy bit of day hiking. Once you get away from the trailhead on Watson Road, it is generally quiet and an excellent "forest bathing" location just outside the city limits. We come here frequently during the various seasons to catch some fresh air and exercise ourselves and our mascot.
For many years, there was simply the loop trail that branched off the main trail a short walk from the gate, tracked up along the high ground on the north side of the property to the east boundary then looped back along the old Radial Railway bed along the Eramosa. In the last 5-10 years a growing number of new trails have appeared giving more opportunities to explore the property.
This is the second of 2 new caches we have placed along a trail section that we only "discovered" a little over a year ago. After the initial walk, we came back with the GPS to mark a number of possible hides, but kept running into proximity issues with nearby caches. It took several visits to finally find a pair of hiding spots that were suitable.
We hope this cache and it's sister cache provide a little geo-enjoyment on your hike. This one should be a bit more straightforward find than #1.
The co-ordinates were captured with my GPSMAP 66st and I would be interested to know if they are "off" as measured by your device.
You are looking for a clear container with a few trade items...
Roadside parking is available at the trailhead on Watson Road just north of the bridge over the Eramosa River.
