Laško je kulturno, upravno, geografsko in gospodarsko središče Občine Laško. Kraj je dobil mestne pravice leta 1927. Skozi Laško teče reka Savinja, ki ga deli na dva bregova. Staro mestno jedro se nahaja pod hribom Hum, od koder je tudi čudovit razgled na mesto in okolico.
Prvi park je postavil Leopold Rödel, ki je bil inženir, gradbenik. Najprej je moral na tem mestu, ki je bilo poplavna ravnica, nasuti dovolj materiala in urediti zaščitni nasip, ki je to območje varoval pred poplavami. Obdržal pa je topolov drevored, ki je bil zasajen, ko so leta 1818 gradili cesto od Celja proti Rimskim Toplicam. Sprehajalci v parku lahko še zmeraj občudujejo mnoge nenavadne rastline, čeprav so se pogledi na namembnost parka skozi čas spreminjali in so veliko dreves posekali. Občuduje se lahko rdeča bukev, Lawsonova pacipresa, orjaška sekvoja, cigarovec in druge. Nedavno so v njem posadili drevesa ginka, na večih predelih pa slikoviti park krasijo kamnite skulpture, ki so nastajale pod spretnimi rokami udeležencev kiparske delavnice, ki poteka vsako leto v Laškem.

However, it kept the poplar tree line, which was planted when the road from Celje to Rimski Toplice was built in 1818. Walkers in the park can still admire many unusual plants, although views on the purpose of the park have changed over time and many trees have been cut down. Red beech, Lawson's cypress, giant sequoia, cigar tree and others can be admired. Ginkgo trees were recently planted in it, and in several areas the picturesque park is decorated with stone sculptures created under the skillful hands of the participants of the sculpture workshop held every year in Laško.
