Since the previous iteration of this cache (https://coord.info/GC434CJ) has gone missing I decided to archive that one and place another to find- just nearby.
It is a few years now since Port Kembla made the transition to NSW's vehicle importing hub. Cars originally mainly came via a Sydney facility at Glebe Island but that has now shut. This means the majority of new cars around NSW are imported from overseas through Port Kembla.
Since all those cars are coming in, they need to be stored somewhere! Out here at Kembla Grange you'll find plenty of cars waiting new owners.
It is expected that the site may have the capacity for about 70,000 vehicles a year, with plans for most cars to be stored for up to three weeks before they are distributed by car carrier to dealerships across NSW. There are also plans to eventually link the 14ha site to the rail network so vehicles can be transported to Sydney via rail, potentially reducing truck movements on Mt Ousley and Picton roads.
