Dzelzceļš Latvijā daudziem ir sentimentāla lieta. Pagājušajā gadsimtā tas kalpoja kā galvenais pārvietošanās veids lielai daļai no Latvijas iedzīvotājiem. Stacijas, kā neatņemamas dzelzceļa sastāvdaļas, arī bija ar savu auru - tajās atradās gan kafejnīcas, kur paēst, gan kioski, kur nopirkt avīzes, gan uzgaidāmās telpas, kas nodrošināja to ampeklētājiem viesmīlīgu atmosfēru. Daudzas no stacijām bija atvērtas visu diennakti piedāvājot nogurušajiem ceļotājiem vietu kur atpūsties, saņemt spēkus un doties tālāk celā.
Neskatoties uz to kādreizēju šarmu, daudzas no stacijām un citas dzelzceļa būves tagad ir atstātas tukšas. Vairāk kā 200 stacijās vilcieni vairs nepietur un līdz ar tiem ir pazudusi arī to dzīvība. Tās stāv pamestas. Tikai dažas stacijas ir ieguvušas otro elpu. Slavenākā no tām ir Ērgļu stacija, kurā var gan garšīgi paēst, gan arī izbaudīt dažādas brīvdabas aktivitātes - izbraukt ar elektrovelosipēdiem, izbraukt ar kajakiem un citas aktivitātes.
Tilts pār Abulu nav viena no šīm pamestajām būvēm. Par to var pārliecināties arī Mežtakas gājējs, kuru Mežtaka gar Abula krastiem izved tiltam pa apakšu. Tilts ticis būvēts no 1886. gada līdz 1889. gadam un pa to kursē vilcieni vēl šobaltdien. Gadu laikā, tas, protams, ir ticis modernizēts. Pašlaik tas ļauj pasažieriem ar vilcieniem nokļūt no Rīgas uz Valku un pēc tam tālāk uz Pleskavu.

Slēpnis ir daļa no slēpņu sērijas „MEŽTAKA”. Mežtaka ir Eiropas garās distances pārgājienu maršruta E11 daļa Baltijas valstīs, kas ved cauri Latvijas, Lietuvas un Igaunijas skaistākajiem mežiem un nacionālajiem parkiem. Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmā no Vecrīgas līdz Igaunijas robežai, kurš izstrādāts ar Eiropas Reģionālās attīstības fonda Centrālā Baltijas jūras reģiona pārrobežu sadarbības programmas 2014.–2020. gadam finansiālu atbalstu, izvietoti 45 slēpņi. Iesakām apvienot slēpņu meklēšanu ar pastaigu pa kādu no 15 ainaviskajiem Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmiem.

Description of the place:
Latvia's railway system holds a special place in the hearts of its citizens, evoking memories of a bygone era when trains were the primary mode of transportation. The stations themselves were an integral part of the railway experience, offering travelers a welcoming atmosphere with cafes, kiosks, and waiting rooms that provided respite during long journeys. Many stations were open all day long, providing a hub of activity for weary travelers to recharge and continue their travels.
However, the passage of time has not been kind to these once-bustling stations, and over 200 of them now stand empty and abandoned, with trains no longer stopping. Yet, a handful of stations have managed to reclaim their former glory. One such example is the Ērgļu Station, which has been revived as a destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering delicious food and a range of activities like electric bike rides and kayaking.
In contrast to these abandoned structures, the bridge over Abul is a testament to Latvia's enduring railway legacy. Built between 1886 and 1889, the bridge still carries trains today, connecting Riga to Valka and onwards to Pskov. Though it has been modernized over the years, the bridge retains its historical charm and is a beloved landmark for locals and visitors alike. For those who travel the Forest Trail along the banks of Abul, passing under the bridge is a memorable experience, affirming the continued vitality of Latvia's railway system.

The cache is not located at the posted coordinates. In order to find it, You will need to go alongside the Forest trail approximately 200 meters in the direction against the flow of Abuls. Find Forest Trail sign, there You will find the cache!

The cache is a PET preform. There is a logbook and pencil inside of it. Please put back the cache in the exact location where you found it.
The geocache is part of the “FOREST TRAIL” series of geocaches. The Forest Trail is a part of the European long-distance hiking route E11 in the Baltic States, which runs through the most beautiful forests and national parks of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. In the northern part of the Forest Trail created with the financial support of the Transborder Cooperation Programme for 2014–2020 of the European Regional Development Fund for the Central Baltic Sea Region 45 geocaches have been deployed between the Old Riga and the Estonian border. We recommend combining the geocache search with a walk through one of the 15 landscape sections of the northern part of Northern part of the Forest Trail.
