Historical note for this cache:
This Virtual cache has been around since Nov 2002 and at that time orienteering was originally required to find it. But times change and so does geocaching. Since orienteering is almost impossible with a mobile phone, and most geocachers (myself included) exclusively use their phone to find caches, I've made some changes so it can be found via your phone.
Logging requirements
1. Use the visible "Final Location" waypoint to go the the Park.
2. Physically visit this site.
3. Post a picture of yourself (a selfie) with the Sculpture of Dennis the Menace and his friends riding on the whale tail. (This can be done from either side, when the park is open or closed). If you prefer privacy, a scrap of paper or other object with your caching name visibly written on it and the Sculpture will do.
4. Optional - Include a picture with you in front of the Train engine as well.
If you still want to try the original orienteering insructions, they are included below.

This is one of my traditional Spiders by The Dozen caches for places I travel to. This one uses orientation for the means of finding it. The posted coordinates above ARE NOT CORRECT. They only put you in the general area. You must use your GPSr to "orienteer" your way to the virtual cache. Make sure your instrument is set for TRUE north, and find the BEARING options for the GOTO feature.
When you are close to the virtual cache, Salinas, California will be 13.8 miles away on a bearing of 67.5* (*= degrees). Redwood City will be 63.9 miles away on a bearing of 342*. And, Big Sur will be 23.0 miles away on a bearing of 169*.
Coordinates that I used for those three cities are:
Salinas ................. 36* 40.433' N .......... 121* 39.367' W
Redwood City ....... 37* 28.800' N .......... 122* 14.400' W
Big Sur ................. 36* 16.200' N .......... 121* 48.417' W
The above information should get you within 1/2 mile of the cache. The following will get you closer.
You are looking for a very big black thing with 14 wheels. It has a 4 digiit number on its sides and front.
You are also looking for a large and very nice, but somewhat menacing, wooden sculpture carved from a large Monterey Cyprus stump by a very talented artist.
If you are still unable to find the big black thing and the sculpture, then take a look at the hints. I'd like to know if you had to use any or all of the hints though, and if so how many you needed. The hints get successively easier with 4, 5 and 6 being dead give aways. Try not to use them if you can avoid it. This orienteering means of searching is rather uncommon in geocaching. I'd love to hear feedback of how you like or dislike it. If you like the power of your GPSr, I'm hoping you'll have fun with these two caches.
If you have trouble with the auto-verifier feel free to email me.
