Bishop Benjamin Eby (pronounced Ee-bee, not Ebb-ee), born 02 May 1785, left home on his 21st birthday to go and build a new life in Canada. About 7 weeks later (on 21 June) he arrived in this area and eventually established a settlement here. Although he himself was not German, he and his people spoke a German dialect, and he encouraged German settlers to join the community. Today he is remembered by the history books as the founder of the City of Kitchener (previously called Berlin and before that Ebytown), but in our house he is remembered as MrsNolan's 4th-Great-Grandfather. Also as her family birthday twin, since they were born on the same day more than 200 years apart!
We thought it would be nice to place a simple cache in his honour today, and Eby Street seems like a good place for it!
