Making Magic With Mike & Bob:
Geocaching HQ is announced a limited-time event promotion called "Magic Maker" which is designed to focus on cache quality or cache creation. If you were to ask any seasoned cacher what the highest quality cache they've ever found, there's a good chance they'd bring up a gadget cache. Gadget caches take some of the highest levels of creativity out of all the cache types. Kent County is blessed with an abundance of gadget caches, far more than almost anywhere else in the state or in the immediate travel region. Renowned gadget cache creator RDC4106 will be on-hand as we navigate the magical world of gadget cache creation and the quality they require from a cache owner perspective.
During this hands-on, educational workshop, we'll be focusing on the creation and quality of good gadget caches. What works, what doesn't, who to talk to, who to get help from, and how to ensure your gadget is built for the long haul. It is our hope that we are able to give you tools, advice, tips, and tricks to encourage you to create a quality gadget cache for your next hide.
Topics for our educational workshop will include:
-The basics of a gadget cache.
-Choosing build materials (with Michigan weather in mind)
-Special considerations of the GC guidelines and how they relate to gadget caching specifically (land permission, hours of access, mounting techniques).
-How to properly rate, label, and identify your gadget.
-Field testing your gadget.
-Reliability and repeatability (making sure your gadget works each and every time).
-Durability (routine maintenance, wearable parts, weatherproofing).
We may also have a few extra surprises in store for everyone as well.
