Geocache Description:

To go where Kevin was may be hard for some, but the cache awaits. Discover the ince of Walcs!

This cache will be part of Tick & Nammies' Go And Get Em 2 Ottawa geocachers gathering on November 15/16th 2002. The co-ordinates have now been updated to their true values. This cache also contains one of the clues to Tick & Nammie's Gnome's Outhouse cache.

As the terrain rating suggests this is a different sort of cache. The area to search is kind of odd and as a result it is not really small kid or large dog friendly unless you have a partner to watch them as you look for the cache (you definitely don't want to take a kid-buggy to this one, and a night raid is a bad idea - and would just be plain spooky as well!). The search area has some wide open spaces and slightly confined ones too, as well as high spots and low spots and it is near the river so take care when you visit(as you would any other time you're geocaching).

You can park at co-ordinates N 45 24.615 W075 43.723 near Laroche park and walk northeast to a paved bike path (part of the Rideau Trail) which you can then follow close to the cache. Or as an alternate scenic route you can park near Lemieux Island<suppresses giggle>.

As you get closer, if you check around you will discover a wooden pedestrian boardwalk that has been added to the area not far from the bike path that you can take right to the cache location (at this point some may question this direction so I will stress that many people use this boardwalk and every time I have been here I have met joggers and the like. You will not encounter any other kind of traffic here at this point in time). If you have second thoughts about proceeding where your GPS tells you to go, look at a few clues. Namely the build-up of un-distrubed brush in certain spots. The general abandoned condition of some of the elements(like rust), the well-used pedestrian boardwalk, and the various access points avaliable to you when you get real close. You don't have to go leaning over anything to look for the cache(but you may have to do something else).

Although the nearby bike path is very busy with walkers and joggers only a few of them use the wooden boardwalk and it is quite easy to conduct your search without drawing their attention. If you do spot someone coming down the boardwalk please act inconspicuous (as only geocachers can<grin>) to avoid drawing attention to the cache.

You can also take the O-train to this cache as it's final northern stop is nearby but be aware that the dirt trail you can take goes through a very small dirty section (used to be a mini shanty town, abandoned when the O-train started up) with some great graffiti which is worth a look but some may wish to avoid.

NOTE: Wow, this is the first time I've ever said this but for this one I'd like it if cachers could refrain from posting pictures of the container. It's a blendy-inny sorta thing and it's probably better if no-one knew what it looked like. As for the area(s) click away! All sorts of strange kodak moments there! (Tripper and I have a pile we didn't post in case it ruins the initial effect).

We don't know who Kevin was, if he wrote this (he probably did) but if we knew we'd say "Bad Kevin! Defacing public property!" or something like that. To tell the truth we don't know if he was even there, but we'll take his word for it.

If you see this you know you're close!
