Geocache Description:

Located on Historic Downtown Houma's waterfront, Bayou Terrebonne Distillers (BTD) is a family-owned, marsh-roots company founded on the belief that honest joy is distilled from hard work and earned victories, big and small. Our purpose is to preserve an illicit family tradition, along with the unique culture of the Bayou region. BTD is operated by the great-grandsons of a local moonshining legend and has been legal since 2019.

Our great-grandmother Lily was a queen and an outlaw. During prohibition, she made moonshine on Bayou Terrebonne and held the honor of being the first queen of Mardi Gras in Houma. With a small copper pot still, the outlaw queen made hootch so good the revenues left her operation alone. Generations later, her great-grandsons have carried on the family legacy, crafting liquor in Lily's defiant spirit and methodical fashion.

Before BTD, the 5,000sf facility was known as Blum & Bergeron Dried Shrimp Co., a Houma Mainstreet staple; this tin warehouse was built a century ago right on Bayou Terrebonne to load and offload merchant's vessels. Its tall ceilings, wood floors, and cypress columns create a rustic atmosphere as intoxicating as the spirits now produced in here.
