Lobis paslėptas viename iš išlikusių Gelžės gyvenamųjų namų. Gelžė tai buvęs ir šiuo metu jau apleistas kaimas, kuriame gyveno 225 gyventojai, esantis 3km nuo Raudėnų. Netoli lobio slėptuvės yra botaninis-zoologinis Gelžės draustinis.
