When a well-designed geocache makes us smile with delight, it can feel like magic.
An event as part of the Groundspeak "Maker Magic" or a.k.a "Maker Madness" Celebration.
Come along and celebrate the people around you that make and hide the caches you love to find.
From a container to camouflage material...
The Event must highlight cache quality and/or cache creation.
It can be anything as long as it related to geocaching. Bring one or more gears of geocaching you own, some tools and plans and lets make some new geocaches for deployment.
If you've had some fun ideas for new geocaches or want to tell stories of some cool caches you've found, come on up and lets hear about them.
We will discuss topics related to high-quality of the geocaches.
The factors, in order of importance, are:
- Accurate coordinates
- Does not harm the environment
- Owner maintains the cache regularly
- Container suited to the environment
- Accurate Difficulty and Terrain ratings
- Well hidden from non-geocachers
- Interesting location
- Well-written description
- Accurate attributes
- Helpful hint
- Clever or custom container
- Fun and/or challenging puzzle
- Includes parking coordinates, if available
- Largest container for location
- Log ‘Did Not Find’, ‘Needs Maintenance’, and ‘Needs Archived’ whenever necessary
- Assist geocache owners with minor maintenance (e.g., replace wet or full log sheets)
- Write honest, constructive online logs
- Do not install new cache containers (e.g., throwdowns) without consent of cache owner
- Award Favorite points more often
- Hide the kind of geocaches you would like to find
** Every geocacher who logs an “Attended” at a "Maker Magic" event will earn a "Maker Magic" souvenir.
