The Springfield American Legion Post 143 has resided on 2nd Street in Springfield since it's original charter in 1946. It relocated to its current location on Pfug Road in 2022. Each year Post 143 sponsors the Springfield/Platteview Schoold District Legion Baseball team. Since the 1970s, Post 143 has alos sponsored yearly Big Red Dinners in coordination with the University of Nebraska, at Lincoln.
Legion members meet on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:30 pm to discuss post affairs.
