Geocache Description:

This is a letterbox hybrid and has a stamp in it.  Please do not take the stamp.  Bring your own stamp pad, as they freeze in the winter if left in the cache.

I was raised in this neck of the woods.  I came from a family of 5 kids.  I was the middle child and had an older brother, older sister, younger brother, younger sister.  I am sharing some of the things that happened to me and they must have been important as now 55 years later I still remember them.

My older brother Butch and his friend Joe and I was going down the state line road headed to the east.  I was a nice sunny warm day and we had our windows down.  Probably to be honest the car did not have AC in it, so we had no choice but to roll the windows down.  As we passed the draw we heard someone yell HELP ME!   My brother stopped the car and backed it up and we found on of the kids from Chilocco Indian School pinned under a tractor that had flippped over on him when he run off the bridge.  Seeing as how old I am there was not such a thing as a cell phone to call for help, so Joe stayed there with the kid to keep him calm and Butch and I ran home and called the Sheriff.  When help arrived they was able to get the tractor lifted up enough to get the kid out from under it.  Thanks to the mud under the tractor, other than having some bruses and a broken leg the kid was ok.  This happened on the south side of the road and back than this draw/ditch was a lot deeper and you could not even see the tractor from the road.  It sure has filled in in the last 50 years. I have thought about that incident sometimes and thought what kind of courage it took for Joe to stay there with that kid, not being able to do anything for him but be there and give him moral support.  We lost Joe last week and I am proud to say that I knew him and he was a good man and a great friend to my brother and brother-in-law.
