A devoção do povo de Quinta do Anjo a Nossa Senhora da Redenção data de há muitos séculos, tendo-se apurado que foi por volta de 1640, ano da Restauração da Independência de Portugal, que a imagem de Nossa Senhora foi trazida para a aldeia, pelo fidalgo que era na altura proprietário da Quinta da Fonte do Anjo. A imagem foi então colocada na Ermida que lá havia sido construída e durante largos anos era aí que a população fazia o seu culto, contando para isso com a bondade e boa vontade dos fidalgos proprietários da Quinta, que o permitiam.
Em 1755, dá-se o grande terramoto de Lisboa, tendo a aldeia de Quinta do Anjo sido poupada, sem que tenha havido registo de vítimas. Atribuindo tal milagre à devoção pela Nossa Senhora da Redenção, a aldeia passa a agradecer todos os anos à sua santa protetora, agradecimento esse que dura até aos dias de hoje, por meio das anuais Festas de Todos os Santos, a 1 de Novembro.
A aldeia sentia, no entanto, necessidade de um local de culto que não dependesse da boa vontade dos proprietários da ermida, pelo que em 1853 foi estabelecida uma fundação, que se responsabilizou pela utilização de fundos obtidos por doação para a construção da Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Redenção, que viria a ser inaugurada em 1909.

The devotion of the people of Quinta do Anjo to Our Lady of Redemption goes back many centuries, and it was around 1640, the year of the Restoration of Portugal's Independence, that the image of Our Lady was brought to the village by the nobleman who owned Quinta da Fonte do Anjo at the time. The image was then placed in the Ermida that had been built there, and for many years it was there that the population worshipped her, relying for this on the kindness and good will of the noble owners of the Quinta, who allowed it.
In 1755, there was the great earthquake of Lisbon, and the village of Quinta do Anjo was spared, with no record of victims. Attributing such a miracle to the devotion to Our Lady of Redemption, the village began to thank her every year, a gratitude that lasts until today, through the annual Festas de Todos os Santos, on November 1st.
The village felt, however, the need for a place of worship that did not depend on the goodwill of the owners of the hermitage, so in 1853 a foundation was established, which was responsible for using funds obtained by donation for the construction of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Redenção, that would be inaugurated in 1909.
