Ermida de São Romão
Esta Ermida é das mais antigas do Concelho de Sintra havendo registos que dão conta da sua existência no Seculo XIII integrada na Paróquia de São Pedro de Penaferrim. Aqui celebravam-se missas excetuando casamentos e batizados que ocorriam na igreja matriz. No reinado de D.Afonso III alguns desentendimentos entre os Párocos de Sintra geraram constantes transferências da paróquia que pertenceu ora a São Pedro de Penaferrim, Santa Maria e são Miguel e, atualmente, integra a paróquia de Algueirão – Mem Martins.
No século XVIII há registos da existência de um Ermitão que ali vivia. Já no ano de 1847 novos registos dão conta de que a Ermida ainda se mantinha em funcionamento tendo ali ocorrido o batismo de Maria Gertrudes. Uma década depois, novos registos de batismo testemunham a vitalidade da Ermida e, um ano depois foram aí celebradas as festas em honra de São Romão. Desde então a pequena Ermida terá sido votada ao abandono, e em 1911 uma habitante local retirou do seu interior o pequeno espólio existente (uma imagem em madeira de Nossa Senhora do Ó e dois crucifixos também em madeira) que conservou até um pouco antes da sua morte, tendo sido entregues a uma vizinha da sua confiança. Nesse ano de 1911 já a pequena Ermida se encontrava ao abandono e em ruínas. Apesar de uma tentativa de reabilitação nos anos 50 que não avançou, esse espólio foi, entretanto, entregue pela sua fiel depositária ao Museu Arqueológico de Odrinhas, 120 anos depois de terem sido retiradas da Ermida.
Atualmente esta Ermida cheia de história é, infelizmente, uma completa ruína perdida nos matos adjacentes ao tribunal de Sintra. Restam as principais paredes, o fragmento de uma mísula (mesa/consola) renascentista, uma janela que foi construída já no Seculo XVIII e a porta lateral de acesso.
Nota: podes e deves aceder ao interior da ruína, mas, por favor, não desloques uma única pedra. A cache, embora contígua ao edifício está no seu perímetro exterior pendurada na árvore sem necessidade de procurar nos muros ou deslocar elementos da estrutura. This hermitage is one of the oldest in the Municipality of Sintra: its existence dates back to the 13th century as part of the Parish of São Pedro de Penaferrim. Masses were celebrated here, except for weddings and baptisms that took place in the mother church. During the reign of D.Afonso III, there were disagreements between the parish priests of Sintra and the hermitage belonged to the parish of São Pedro Penaferrim, Santa Maria and São Miguel and is currently part of the parish of Algueirão – Mem Martins.
In the 18th century there are records of the existence of a Hermit who lived there. In 1847, new records show that the Hermitage was still in operation, with the baptism of Maria Gertrudes having taken place there. A decade later, new records of baptisms testify to the Chapel's vitality and, a year later, festivities in honor of São Romão were celebrated there. Since then, the small Chapel has been abandoned, and in 1911 a local inhabitant removed from its interior the small existing collection (a wooden image of Nossa Senhora do Ó and two crucifixes, also in wood) that she kept until a little before her death, having been handed over to a trusted neighbor. In that year of 1911, the small Chapel was already abandoned and in ruins. Despite an attempt for rehabilitation in the 1950s that did not progress, the collection was finally handed over by its faithful depositary to the Archaeological Museum of Odrinhas, 120 years after they were removed from the Hermitage.
Currently, this hermitage full of history is, unfortunately, a complete ruin lost in the woods adjacent to the court of Sintra. The main walls remain, the fragment of a Renaissance corbel (table/console), a window that was built in the 18th century and the side access door.
You can access the ruins, but do not displace a single stone. The cache, although contiguous to the building, is out of its inner perimeter hanging on a tree, so there is no need to damage the structure or remove a single stone. Cito is aslo welcome.
