There are thousands of different species of freshwater and brackish pond snails all over the world. Lymnaea stagnalis is the species people are often referring to when they say “pond snail.” These snails are found in ponds, lakes, rivers and canals all throughout Europe, north america and some parts of asia. Snails don’t discard their shells when they outgrow them, as hermit crabs are known to do, their shells grow with them!
