Porta del Ponte
Ad arco acuto con ghiera in cotto, la Porta del Ponte è una delle quattro porte conservatesi e oggi visibili dell’antica cinta muraria di Tolentino, costruita nel XIII secolo e rivista organicamente nel XV secolo per far fronte alle nuove tecnologie in materia di armi da fuoco. La sua denominazione deriva dall’antistante Ponte del Diavolo, sul fiume Chienti, a cui forniva l’accesso alla città. Si apre alla base di una torre mozza in arenaria e ancora presenta all’interno i gangheri con gli incastri per il fermo della catena.
Proseguendo il giro delle mura, avendo davanti a sé la porta, verso destra si troverebbero i due torrioni superstiti e la porta Marina, principale sbocco per la città verso Macerata. Invece, costeggiando la cinta, alla sua sinistra sono presenti i restanti due accessi superstiti, la Porta Adriana, scelta inevitabile per chi veniva da Roma per entrare nel centro cittadino, e la Porta dei Cappuccini. Si consiglia di percorrere il suggestivo Vicolo del Ponte, presente alla sinistra della porta scendendo dalla Basilica di San Nicola.

Continuing around the walls, having the gate in front of you, to the right you would find the two surviving towers and the Porta Marina, the main outlet for the city towards Macerata. Instead, skirting the wall, on its left are the remaining two surviving entrances, the Porta Adriana, an inevitable choice for those coming from Rome to enter the city centre, and the Porta dei Cappuccini. It is advisable to take the suggestive Vicolo del Ponte, present to the left of the door going down from the Basilica of San Nicola.
