This cache was placed by tgsnoopy in 2002 and was our first cache find in 2013. We subsequently adopted it as our first cache owned.
This is a track that only locals seem to know about. Start from this location S 37 43.076 E 176 10.418 (right hand culdesac, Vine Ave, Maungatapu) where there is a small amount of parking available, and follow the track down to the beach.
The original cache was a 1.25 litre plastic barrel, camouflage painted, and when placed it contained:

In April 2018, we replaced the container in a different position (closer to the waterfront and seat) as a large slip had buried the original site and part of the track had to be rebuilt.
In July 2024 we replaced the container again, closer to the original position. It’s now a black-taped approx 1L screwtop container, with plenty of room for swaps and trackables. It only contained a log sheet on placement, so PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN.
The area is obviously well-used at different times as indicated by discarded rubbish, so you might like to bring a bag and do some CITO while here. It was tidy when we visited. Please be extremely stealthy (or don't attempt to retrieve it) if there are muggles present.
Please cover the cache well with natural materials (leaves etc) when re-hiding.
