Geocache Description:

Seeking this cache will take you to the outer reaches of the Boyd Pond Park mountain bike trails. The cache is placed with permission of the Park Supervisor.

Boyd Pond is a 210 acre county park that was the former Savannah River Site's employee recreation facility. It has ballfields, soccer fields, several miles of hiking and walking trails, mountain bike trails, a 30-acre fishing pond, a boardwalk (great for birdwatching!), picnic areas and shelters, playgrounds, an observatory, a highly rated 18-hole disc golf course, and geocaches to help you explore the park.

Ode to Old Tom Boyd

Old Tom Boyd is a fine old bird.

You can trust his every word.

Take a Woodland Walk to seek his cache.

Behind his back you’ll find his stash.

If you visit in the spring, you’ll hear him gobble.

With his spurs he’ll settle any squabble.

His old complexion is pocked but tan.

The logbook is behind his fan.

The cache is a combination of turkey and bison.

It’s much more fun than fighting Mike Tyson.

Tom will be looking out for a hen.

Don’t forget to bring a pen.

The path to Tom is filled with turns.

Look for him among the ferns.

Remember the wild things that you should avoid

When you say hello to Old Tom Boyd.
