Geocache Description:

In 1840 Pastorlist William Sinclair  Trotter Turned from a Whaler to a runholder .

In 1859 he took up this land  25000 hectares of valley floor and mountainside  Named Greenvale

His first homestead was bult near here , some of the stone buildings remains are still parsily intacked to this day .

The founding flock of sheep came from Moeraki on the north Otago Coast .

In 1860 he drove the flock of sheep 180km from the coast though to Clyde. There they crossed the Clutha  river by punt and over the Old Man Range , battling  though steep matagouri (matakoura)c into the Nevis Range and finally to Greenvale .

How times have changed. Here we find the new and diverse range of farm animals from the humble Sheep, Alpaca, Horse, Highland Cow and maybe a cheeky goat or two. You can even book in a farm skills workshop, to learn how to back trailers, crack a whip, shoot a gun, and perhaps even work with a horse or two.

Yes this is Real Country!
