This home was originally part of a much larger landholding called the Manor or Patroonship of Rensselaerswyck. The name comes from the Van Rensselaer's estate in the Netherlands. Various spellings of Crailo (as it is now) ranged from Crayloo or Cralo in the 17the century. It comes from a Dutch word meaning "crows' wood." Located in and around the grounds are informational plaques that speak more to this place's history. Did I mention you could also book a tour of the home and learn even more?
