at the end of your rope Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

J27Smith: Sadly, I have to archive this one. I do not have a replacement can and its sad to see that someone would come out here and just cut the wire rope and walk off with the original.

Geocache Description:

Where does the saying 'at the end of your rope' come from?

The term at the end of your rope is primarily an American phrase, though it may be traced back to the 1680s from somewhere outside what was the US at the time. The idea is as if someone who has been thrown a safety rope, and has run out of length. At the end of one's rope or tether also means to be at the end of one's strength, endurance or patience.

A 'rope' is thrown to someone who is in a difficult place, such as deep water or the edge of a cliff. If there is not enough rope, the person might be in trouble. So to be 'at the end of your rope' means that there is no more help available, and the situation is not good.  In the case of this particular geocache - the situation is not that bad...or is it??

At the posted coordinates you'll find a container.  Inside that container is ~50 feet of rope.  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find a geocache container and log to sign at the end of that rope.  The direction you choose is entirely up to you however, you DO NOT need to be 'strung out' across the DORBA bike trail so please don't do that.  No need to have the DORBA folks think we geocachers are setting up trip wires for the bikers.

Once the container is located, there is a locking mechanism to deal with.  The code for said mechanism can be found on the container.  Look for a 13 digit string of numbers that contains three hyphens.  The last digits in each group of that string will give you access to...your rope.  The rope is mechanically fixed to the bottom of the continer and magnetically attached to the lid.  Simply unclip the rope from the caribiner on the lid and stretch it out in your desired direction of search.  Straight line search - no funny business of zig-zagging or looping around trees.

Once you complete your mission, please put everything back the way you found it and do make sure the locking mechanism incorporates both of the side handles on the rope container.
