Geocache Description:

26 August 2023, 11:00 - 12:15

Nick and Pen were the heros of April's CITO, clearing rubbish up to Timberland on the Northern end of Walcott. Sadly I was unable to attend due to work sending me off with a whole 12hrs notice and no internet. I did stick a note on the cache but of course I still had drafts turned on so nobody got to see it (silly me). Despiter this Nick and Pen carried on regardless and I look forward to making the next one. A couple more months later due to event deadlines and here we are.

That just leaves us the East of Walcott to clear before we can say we have gone full circle. Due to being a bit late to organise for ths month and a commitment at the end of March, I will se this one for the second to last weekend on June.

Geocache Description:

26 Aug 2023, 10:55 - 12:15

The plan:

10:55 Sign onto the CITO outside the front of the Plough Inn Walcott (parking shown on waypoints).

11:00 Start of the CITO
Walcott to Walcott Fen
Head towards Walcott fen down the Drift, taking in castle view and East view along with the park in between.
As you will be able to see from the map below, that then opens up options to head down the Long drove or Gravellhill drove  (droving optional, you will have to bring your own pigs) as well as a fiew paths should you wish to avoid roads and pick from the hedgerows.

For those that would prefer to stay in the relative safety of the 30mph zones, cachers are encouraged to clean up around Walcott Village.
Those that have a car and would like to CITO and dash, can work around Further down Gravellhill drove towards Billinghay which has a limited places to stop which concide with popular flytipping spots.

12:00 Reconvene at our respective start points. Those that are unable to take rubish home can leave their rubbish in a neat pile at the Plough inn which will be disposed of by myself. Should large piles of rubbish be found at flytipping spots, just flag it up and we can look to have it removed.

We are then free to refresh  at the Plough which will be open for business offering hot and cold drinks. Then onwards to collect some caches to round off our Saturdays!

Here is the area we hope to cover. On foot we will only get so far, aiming to head out for 45 minutes litter picking then walk straight back.
Thos in cars will be able to get a bit further and alternative paths have been shown with a dashed line for those withsing to make a loop of it and/or stay off the faster roads.

You will need:

  • suitable dress for the weather and potentially grubby work.

  • gloves

  • bin bags

  • high vis jacket highly recommended

  • a pole of grabber to get things out of the ditches

Bin bags and disposable gloves will be provided at the start points.

Litter pickers can be borrowed from your local library. Woodhall Spa, Sleaford and Lincoln central are the closest to this CITO and thier opening hours can be found on the Lincoln council website.
