Geocache Description:

Before Monopoly came The Landlord's game, created by Lizzie Magie in the United States in 1903 as a way to demonstrate that an economy that rewards individuals is better than one where monopolies hold all the wealth and to promote the economic theories of Henry George—in particular, his ideas about taxation.

Monopoly, as we know it, derived from this early game and there is a history as several parties tried to take credit for creating the boardgame Monopoly. Fun facts are:

  • The six original game pieces included battleship, thimble, boot, cannon, iron and top hat.
  • Mr. Monopoly was originally marketed as Rich Uncle Pennybags
  • Marvin Gardens, the farthest yellow property, is a misspelling of its actual name, Marven Gardens.

The container will be easy enough to locate. However, in order to access the log, you will need to locate the needed gamepieces, identify them and put in the correct order to determine the combination to the lock. Please be sure to relock. You need to reset to combination and press hard and then scramble letters so the next finder may enjoy as CO intended. Thank you!
