đ we are accepted as a Maker Magic event ! đ
Â
~ *** THIS EVENT WILL BE ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT *** ~
Quality geocaches do not have to be intricate or difficult. This is not to say great gadget caches aren't out there, but this event highlights two different facets.Â
- This event will encompass both geocache container construction and education regarding geocaches, primarily with a review of the current hiding guidelines.
Â
- Construction techniques for wood will demonstrate the usefulness of a âkeyhole sawâ, which basically is a special drill bit. For accuracy, a drill press or rotary tool with a guide is preferred, and, not easy to do at a restaurant. A freehand demonstration will, hopefully, be given as well as seeing several unpublished caches using the technique. These tend to be a little sneaky.Â
Â
- Another technique for wood will be demonstrated by example will be that of a âgravityâ stage for a multi or puzzle. This stage is relatively easy if you know how to open it, by spinning it. The construction will be discussed.  Â
Â
- Another wooden construction feature will include using neodymium (rare earth magnets) and a play on words. The cache container is wooden and, as described by its title, is a âcard board boxâ.
Â
- A cache container described as âa bison tube placed on a hook screwed through a white picket fence into a tree, partially in a flower pot and near RR tracksâ will be brought and passed around. This will demonstrate clever word use as this hide will have NO problem passing review. It is akin to my âHoney Badger He Donât Careâ hide.
Â
- Deconstruction of small hobby wooden birdhouses will be shown as well as converting them into a cache container. These can be found in the hobby or art areas of some of the large stores. Making the container as well as weatherproofing it will be discussed.
Â
- A spring-loaded center punch with letters/numbers will be demonstrated and explained how it is useful for cache creation. Â
Â
- Much of the guidelines will be reviewed, especially those relating to the above topics. If our local reviewer attends, I will ask if he wishes to address these and what the majority of problems are for publication.
