SOLDIER POND - WALLAGRASS
Soldier Pond is a part of the Town of Wallagrass. It is located on a deep, wide area of the Fish River, which flows from Eagle Lake to Fort Kent. It empties into the St. John River at Fort Kent. The river is known for its salmon and brook trout fishery.
Soldier Pond is named either for the soldiers who bivouacked here during the bloodless Aroostook War in 1838-1839 or two soldiers who drowned here in 1838. (There seems to be some discrepancy) This area was settled by Acadians, French Canadians and Irish.
The cache is a bison located in a park with a memorial to a fallen son in the Vietnam War. Also located here is a boat landing and a picnic table. The cache is hiding in a large lawn ornament.
