Mali izvirek je eden izmed izvirov Kamniške Bistrice. Leži med izvirom pri Domu v Kamniški Bistrici in še enim biserom – sotesko Predaselj. Ta izvir, ki je znan po izjemno čisti vodi, je manjši od svojega »velikega brata« in tudi manj obiskan. Ostali izviri pa so bolj ali manj občasni in tekom leta večkrat presahnejo (npr. izvir pod Mokrico ali Studenci, Prosek, Izvir pod hlevom, …).
Kamniška Bistrica je največji slovenski hudournik, ki izvira na nadmorski višini 623 m ob južnem vznožju Kamniško-Savinjskih Alp. Ima tipičen kraški izvir v obliki obrha, ki izvira izpod strmih pobočij Rigeljca. V zgornjem toku je Kamniška Bistrica izoblikovala globoko sotesko, ki še danes onemogoča dostop do reke, zaradi česar je struga ohranila izrazito naravno obliko. Slab kilometer od glavnega izvira se reka zaje v okoli 100 m široko ledeniško preoblikovano dolino. V apnenčasti podlagi je izjedla do 30 m globoka korita Malega in Velikega Predaslja.
V svojem srednjem delu Kamniška Bistrica teče skozi mesti Kamnik in Domžale, kjer je zaradi urbanizacije močno regulirana. Po 33 kilometrih se pri Dolu kot levi pritok izliva v reko Savo.
Večji desni pritoki Kamniške Bistrice so hudourniška Korošica, ki izvira na vzhodnih pobočjih gore Krvavec, gorski potok Bistričica ter reka Pšata, ki se Kamniški Bistrici pridruži v Biščah. Pomembnejši levi pritoki so hudourniški gorski potok Kamniška Bela, reka Nevljica, v kateri so našli mamutovo okostje in se v Kamniško Bistrico izliva tik pred Kamnikom in reka Rača, ki se v Kamniško Bistrico izliva v Domžalah pri Podrečju.
Površina porečja Kamniške Bistrice znaša 534.4km2, s tem pa predstavlja enega največjih pritokov reke Save. S 791,2 km vodnega omrežja ima porečje Kamniške Bistrice gostoto 1,49 km/km2.
The "Mali izvirek" (Small Spring) is one of the sources of the Kamniška Bistrica River. It is located between the source near the Dom v Kamniški Bistrici and another gem, the Predaselj Gorge. This spring, known for its exceptionally clear water, is smaller than its "big brother" and also less visited. Other springs in the area are more or less intermittent and often dry up throughout the year (e.g., the spring beneath Mokrica or Studenci, Prosek, Izvir pod hlevom, etc.).
The Kamniška Bistrica is the largest torrential river in Slovenia, originating at an altitude of 623 meters at the southern foothills of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. It has a typical karstic source in the form of a funnel, emerging from beneath the steep slopes of Rigeljec. In its upper course, the Kamniška Bistrica has formed a deep gorge that still hinders access to the river, preserving its natural form. About a kilometer from the main source, the river enters a glacier-transformed valley, approximately 100 meters wide. In the limestone substrate, it has carved out the up to 30-meter deep troughs of Mali and Veliki Predaselj.
In its middle section, the Kamniška Bistrica flows through the towns of Kamnik and Domžale, where it is heavily regulated due to urbanization. After 33 kilometers, it joins the Sava River as its left tributary near Dol.
The major right tributaries of the Kamniška Bistrica are the torrential Korošica, originating from the eastern slopes of Mount Krvavec, the mountain stream Bistričica, and the river Pšata, which joins the Kamniška Bistrica in Biše. The significant left tributaries are the torrential mountain stream Kamniška Bela, the river Nevljica, where a mammoth skeleton was found and which flows into the Kamniška Bistrica just before Kamnik, and the river Rača, which joins the Kamniška Bistrica in Domžale near Podrečje.
