You and your family are invited to the 20th annual GeoCaching Event by the Lacy Family.
This year's event is being held at James H. "Sloppy" Floyd State Park near Summerville, GA in pioneer 01 campground. There are several campfire rings for the nightly campfires.
Because it is at a Georgia State Park you will need either a yearly park pass, or a daily pass. The Georgia State Park webpage says "Overnight guests pay only one night parking fee for the duration of their stay." So you only need one no matter if you just come for the day, or stay for one or two nights. The daily passes are $5 a day. You can get information on park passes here. Note Annual ParkPass discounts of 50% are available for seniors 62 and older, and 25% for active military and veterans. Discounted passes must be purchased in person. Also most libraries in Georgia will let you check out a Georgia Parkpass.
Create and enjoy your favorite cook out food, mixed with some GPS fun thrown in. Then spend a night or two if you want.
This event will be all day Saturday Sep 30, 2023, beginning at 10am until dark, or overnight if you like. As past attendees know, the event will be held rain or shine.
All activities are optional. You can take part in just one or two or any combination or all of them. If you just want to stop by socialize for awhile that is fine.
Each person or group is asked to bring a sack lunch. If you are spending the night, don't forget to bring your coffee and donuts, for Sunday morning.
For Saturday night there will be potluck meal, each family or group is responsible for bringing their own favorite camp food and cooking skills for you or your family to enjoy. We will eat around the evening camp fire that we will have for everybody to enjoy. We will set around the fire and tell some tall tales, and maybe somebody will tell a scary story.
You should try to bring everything you need but civilization is close by. There are toilets and water in the campground, but no electricity.
Camping
If you are real gun ho outdoor people, you are invited to camp with us overnight either Friday or Saturday or both. Things to bring will include heavy bed cover because the nights in October may be cool or hot. Bring your tent and camping gear, and join the fun. But do come prepared for the weather.
There are lots of spots for tents, plus there are trees for hammock campers. There are adirondack shelters that each can sleep up to 12 very friendly people. However there is no room for RVs in the pioneer campground. We are not sure how many tents in total can be placed. It depends on how close people are willing to put their tents. However if when you come there is no place for your tent you can camp in the regular campground. This also applies to people with RVs. Here is a link for information about regular camping. Then come over for the games, potluck supper and to enjoy the campfires.
