Ghost Town of East Bay
When it was organized in 1876, it was named from its location, East Grand Traverse Bay. It was a sawmill settlement and was given a Post Office Feb. 3, 1868 as East Traverse Bay. It was renamed, Traverse Bay on Dec. 22, 1873, and then East Bay on Jan. 9, 1874 it remained in operation until it closed March 24, 1879. (Michigan Place Names by Walter Romig, L.H.D. 1986, pg 168)
