Welcome to the 2023 Taconic Region NYS Park Summer Geocaching Challenge. Please see FA 1 for details about the challenge.
Welcome to Fahnestock State Park! These 15 geocaches (10 challenge, 5 bonus) will take you on a virtual tour of some of the state parks and historic sites in the Taconic Region. We recommend completing the series in order, with numbers 1-10 of the challenge geocaches. The bonuses will be interspersed throughout. You may also want to read the descriptions of FA04— Lake Taghkanic State Park, FA09 — Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park, and FA10 — Fahnestock State Park, before beginning.
Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park is a delight for outdoor enthusiasts. This 14,086-acre park, covering land in Putnam and Dutchess counties, boasts hiking trails, picnic areas, scenic campground, and abundant opportunities for boating, hunting, fishing, and birding. The park is also home to the Taconic Outdoor Education Center, which provides high-quality environmental programming and Fahnestock Winter Park, which includes 20 kilometers of groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The geocache is not at the posted coordinates. Each of the challenge geocaches numbered 01 through 09 have a letter and number on the inside top of the container (for example, Z = 7, although that is not correct). None of the bonus caches have information that you will need to locate the final. You will not need all of the numbers found in challenge geocaches 01 through 09, although you may want to keep track of them.
The final geocache is located at: N41 27.CEJ W73 49.BHA
