History:

Enfield Playing Fields is a King George's Field, as indicated by the newly restored plaques on the Sketty Road gate posts at the south east of the park.  The Friends of Enfield Playing Fields campaigned for years to have the stone heraldic panel restored, the original having been broken when a falling tree destroyed a gate posts.

A King George V Field is a public open space dedicated to the memory of King George V (1865–1936).  After the king's death, the King George's Fields Foundation was set up in memory of the king:  To promote and to assist in the establishment throughout the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland of playing fields for the use and enjoyment of the people.

There are 471 King George Playing Fields in the country, owned by the National Playing Fields Association and managed on their behalf by either the council or a board of local trustees.  The Enfield playing Fields was one of the largest King George’s Fields.
