竹瓦温泉は、明治12年に開湯した、別府温泉を代表する老舗共同浴場です。唐破風造りの母屋は昭和13年に完成したもので、平成16年に登録有形文化財に登録され、平成21年には近代化産業遺産にも認定されています。
Takegawara Onsen, opened in 1879, is a long-established public bathhouse representing Beppu Onsen. The Karahafu-style main building was completed in 1938, and was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property in 2004, and was recognized as a Heritage of Industrial Modernization in 2009.
浴槽は石造り、壁や天井はタイル張りになっており、大きな窓からは明るい日差しが燦燦と差し込みます。板張りの湯上がり処も雰囲気抜群で、ゆっくりと滞在すれば、古き良き日本の伝統と文化を存分に味わうことができると思います。
The bathtub is made of stone, the walls and ceiling are tiled, and bright sunlight shines in through the large windows. The lounge after taking a bath is also wooden and has a great atmosphere, and if you stay here slowly, you will be able to fully enjoy the good old traditions and culture of Japan.
なお竹瓦温泉は非常に熱い温泉です。湯船に注がれている源泉の温度は、約53.8°Cともいわれており、熱さに慣れていない方は、１分と耐えられないことでしょう。その際は無理せず、かけ湯を楽しんだり、水を足しながら入浴しましょう。
Takegawara Onsen is a very hot hot spring. The temperature of the spring water poured into the bathtub is said to be about 53.8°C. If you are not used to the heat, you may not be able to stand it for more than a minute. In that case, take it easy and add water while bathing.
