やまなみハイウェイは、大分県湯布院と熊本県阿蘇山を結ぶ、日本百名道にも選ばれている全長約60kmに及ぶ山岳道路です。
Yamanami Highway is a 60km long drive way that connects Yufuin, Oita Prefecture, and Mt. Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture, and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous roads in Japan.
ルート上には、標高1,330mの牧ノ戸峠を最高点に、飯田高原の朝日台、長者原のタデ原湿原、瀬野本高原のやまなみ夢広場、阿蘇外輪山の城山展望所など、九重連山や阿蘇五岳などの雄大な山々を一望できる絶景スポットがいくつも点在しており、ドライブやツーリングの人気スポットとなっています。
This route is dotted with several scenic spots, such as Asahidai in Iida Kogen, Tadehara Marsh in Chojabaru, Yamanami Yume Hiroba in Senomoto Kogen, and Shiroyama Observatory in the outer rim of Aso, where you can view the magnificent mountains of the Kuju mountain range and Aso Gogaku, etc., with Makinodo Pass at 1,330 m above sea level as the highest point. Aso and the five Aso peaks, making it a popular spot for driving and touring.
