This is the cemetery for the city of Glen Elder, Ks. When I went out to look the cemetery over I noticed several tombstones with just unknown on the markers. Never have I seen this or so many of them in a cemetery before. My research has produced the following: When Waconda Lake and the Glen Elder, Ks dam were put in in the 1960's it displaced 5 cemeteries: the Quaker (Garlett) Cemetery, Prairie Grove, Great Spirit Springs Cemetery, Granite Creek Cemetery, and Valley Cemetery. Any gravesite that did not have a marker or the burial could not be verified from records were moved to Glenwood and an unknown marker put in to mark these graves.
Very well kept up cemetery. You know the rules, please follow them.
