Geocache Description:

Cache is not at the posted coordinates. Coordinates may be obtained by completing the nearby Libertyville Historic Walking Tour Adventure Lab

How to solve: The location of the geocache is at N42 16.ABC W87 57.DEF. Obtain the values for A,B,C,D,E, and F by completing all five locations in the Adventure Lab; one or two of these values will be revealed upon completing each location. No need to write down the numbers as you complete the Adventure Lab locations. If you review the journal in the Adventure Lab app after completing it, you can review them all at once and plug in the numbers as needed. This cache is located less than a mile from the downtown area and street parking will be available near the cache. There is no bushwhacking required to find this cache and sign the log. You MUST sign the log to claim this bonus cache; any entries claiming a "find" on the geocaching website without having signed the cache's physical log will be deleted.

Difficulty rating is based partly on completing the Adventure Lab to obtain the cache coordinates; the hide itself is probably a difficulty level of 1-1/2 or 2.

We hope you enjoyed the Adventure Lab and wanted to bring you to one more historic spot that few people know about.

Harness racing was once a very popular sport in this area, and Libertyville was home to no less than three harness racing venues. The Libertyville Trotting Association operated a one-mile track at the cache's physical location from 1904 to 1918. The track and its surroundings took up 100 acres, had three barns that could house up to 300 horses, and had a grandstand that could seat 500 people.

By the 1910s, the popularity of automobile and motorcycle races monopolized the Libertyville track, and harness racing's popularity began to wane. In 1918, Samuel Insull purchased the property and closed the track.
