Geocache Description:

17 June 2023, 10:30 - 11:30

Come on out and join us on Satuday, June 17th at 10:30am for a fun event and earn a souvenir! We will meet at the Leo-Cedarville Riverside Gardens.

Whether you are just starting out with hiding geocaches or are a seasoned hider this event is for you!

We will discuss some do's and don'ts learned along the way in this "hands on" educational workshop.

This Critter will provide some basic nature made containers and household items for you to modify at the event.

Workshop Agenda:

  • Containers - We will focus on the creation and quality of containers and talk about what works, what doesn't, who to get help from and how to build caches that last several seasons. Your garage or attic is a gold mine for containers!
    • Label your container as a geocache
    • Best if it is weather proof
    • Include a logbook.
  • Location - choose location safely and wisely
    • Obey local laws and land management policies. Do not place caches in a location that requires or encourages geocachers to trespass or pass markers that prohibit access.
    • Permission to hide a cache on public and private property.
    • Do no harm
      • Do not damage, deface, or destroy public or private property, especially archaeological or historical sites, when you place your cache.
      • Do not place caches in a location that requires or encourages geocachers to damage, deface, or destroy public or private property, especially archaeological or historical sites.
  • How to place your geocache
    • Getting accurate coordinates
    • How to check for minimum distance (0.1 miles = 528 feet or 161 meters) from a neighboring cache
  • How to Publish your geocache
    • Submission and review process
    • Communicate with your reviewer
  • Cache owner responsibilities
    • Maintain cache page online
    • To keep the online cache page up-to-date, the cache owner must:
      • Monitor logs for reported problems.
      • Post an Owner Maintenance log after doing maintenance.
      • Update the cache page if conditions or coordinates change.
      • Disable a cache page when the cache is not available or you need time to fix reported problems. A cache page can stay disabled for a reasonable amount of time - generally up to four weeks.
      • Occasionally mark trackables as missing if they are not in the geocache.
      • Delete logs that appear to be false or inappropriate.

Geocaching is a family-friendly game. Cache page contents, including description and name, must be suitable for all ages.

Bring your creativity and idea's. Light snacks will be provided.
