Stop 1: Geology Rocks! This cache
The rock formations in Lehigh Gorge date back to the Early Mississippean-age. Gray sandstone with pinkish weathering from the Pocono formation can be seen at this site. The rock is sedimentary and was deposited by ancient streams when what is now Pennsylvania lay in the tropics. These rocks are susceptible to frost-splitting as ice and water freeze and expand in natural fractures in the rock. The cache is located in one of those natural fractures.
Be aware of poison ivy in the vicinity (but not near the cache).
