This cache is part of the official “Discover Mission Viejo GeoTour GT4D8” which will lead visitors to discover trails, parks, and other prominent locations throughout Mission Viejo. Those who complete the tour will be eligible to receive a GeoCoin for their achievement by completing the GeoTour passport and finding code words. At the above coordinates you will find a historical marker that discusses Old US Highway 101, which used to go through Mission Viejo before Interstate 5 was constructed in the 1960s. US 101 originally connected the coastal cities of San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. 100 years earlier in the 1860s, this site was used as a staging station for horses and riders in part due to the discovery of a nearby spring.
