Nude Solstice Swim Alternative Event
Did you miss out on registering for Dark Mofo's Nude Solstice Swim?
As there is only a waitlist available for the Solstice Swim, this is an alternative event to celebrate the shortest day/longest night/Midwinter.
This event does not involve any removal of clothing, or plunging into the River Derwent.
It does involve having a friendly chat about all things geocaching.
Location: Banjo's Bakery and Cafe, Bligh Street, Rosny Park
Time: 7 - 7.45am
All are welcome. Eating and drinking is optional. You can stay the entire time, or just pop in for a minute or two.
So what is so special about the Winter solstice?
The solstices are the two times each year when the tilt in Earth's axis lines up most with the direction of the Sun, creating the maximum difference between daylight and nighttime hours.

At the winter solstice, days are at their shortest. How many hours of daylight you'll see depends on your latitude (how far north or south you are). Hobart, for example, only sees around 9 hours and 50 seconds of daylight at the winter solstice.
The winter solstice in Hobart is at 12:57 am on Thursday, 22 June 2023. In terms of daylight, this day is 6 hours, 20 minutes shorter than the December solstice.
The sunrise in Hobart on 22 June 2023 is at 7.42am. So if you stay until the end of the event, the sun will be up when you leave.
