Since moving to Paradise, I have been actively trying to figure out what Hawaiian words mean in English. But, it's not always that easy. Simply plugging a Hawaiian word into Google and hitting "translate" seldom ends well. For example, Google tells me that "Haleokane" (the actual name of this lookout) means "organ." Organ lookout? Haha, that's silly!
I thought about it and realized that "hale" means 'home," and "o" means "of," and "kane" means "man." "Home of Man" lookout? Except it is supposed to be written "Kāne" which is the highest of the three major Hawaiian deities, along with Kū and Lono. So it means "house of Kāne!" This is an easy park and grab while you are enjoying the amazing view!
