Geocache Description:

If you're a tourist, you are probably eager to spot a Nene! This endemic Hawaiian goose is our state bird and also the rarest goose in the world. You will only find them in the Hawaiian Islands. They look similar to a Canada goose, but are smaller and more sporty looking. They even appear to have racing stripes!

In 1952, poor Nene was nearly extinct with only 30 birds remaining. But thanks to awesome conservation practices, its numbers are currently above 3.8 million and it is no longer considered endangered, only slightly threatened.

This cache was placed here because Nenes can almost always be seen in this pond. Most Geocachers are already stopping at Punalu'u beach to view the sea turtles, and I know you want to see a Nene, so why not stop here and kill two birds with one stone?

JUST KIDDING!!! (I'm sorry, that pun was in extremely poor taste.)
