Congrats to NYWanderer for being FTF on another one of my puzzle caches. I guess all of my previous puzzles must have helped train you to crack the code on this one!
A.J.'s Puzzle #4
Welcome back, everyone. I know you've all been waiting patiently for my next puzzle cache. You may also be glad to hear this puzzle won't be as difficult as the last, but don't take that to mean it will be easy. Anyway, that is enough chit-chat. Let's get into why you came here; for a migraine and facts about miscellaneous food. And boy is this puzzle filled with at least one of those things.
This journey starts with a boy's dream to travel the world in search of the most mouthwatering, delectable, exquisite provisions, all while enjoying a luxurious locomotive ride in between, when I could. So I started where everyone would have started this adventure. After I landed in Nîmes, France, I headed to the train station where I would embark on my long eating expedition. The first leg of my trip would start here in Nîmes and end at the Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany, but not without several savory stops on the way. With the first train ticket in my hand, I boarded the train, took my seat, and ordered the first meal - ratatouille. As a big fan of [redacted due to copy right], my first meal had to be this. Shortly after the train started off they delivered my stew which was flavorful, but could use some meat. After my meal and some self-indulgence, I went to bed and woke up outside Valserhône, France. Here I would enjoy a crispy and flavorful croque madame with lots of pastries for my huge French breakfast. Due to how large my breakfast was, I skipped lunch, but when we arrived in Innsbruck, Austria, I had some authentic wiener schnitzel where I sat next to a very interesting man (due to legal reasons I can't say anything more). By the end, he invited me to a party he was having in three days in the area. I told him I would have to check my schedule and that I would try to make it work. When I got back on the train I looked at my schedule and was able to squeeze in some time if I changed my flight that day. After rebooking my flight, the train arrived in Salzburg, Austria. This time I made sure to leave room for dessert so I could enjoy some decadent sachertorte. I then would sleep through the remainder of the train ride to Leipzig, Germany. Because I had a plane to catch, I didn't have a whole lot of time to enjoy some rich and creamy apple cinnamon kaiserschmarrn for breakfast.
After the plane ride to the Trondheim Airport in Norway for the Nordic part of the trip, I went to enjoy the first lunch of my journey; some nice and hearty sodd. After I slurped up the stew, I began the train ride that would take me throughout Norway and Sweden. I had some tender whale steak for dinner in Bergen, a midnight snack of creamy brunost in Olso, delicate Laks og Eggerøre for breakfast in Eskilstuna, pølse med lompe for lunch in Linköping, and for dinner/dessert, I enjoyed some moist fårikål and crumbly havrekjeks in Falkenberg and Växjö. After I finished my last Swedish meal, I made my way to the airport to catch my next flight back to France.
After landing in Le Mans, France and indulging in some fiery lobster bisque, I only needed to take a short train ride to Tours, France where I would meet a friend for lunch and then have dinner before boarding the next train. About halfway there, I ended up getting a call from my friend to meet him in Pamplona, Spain, and that he just sent me the airline ticket. A bit surprised, but excited non the less, I got on the plane and met my friend, where we had some exotic pulpo gallego. Before we said our goodbyes we went to check out the Pamplona train station and then I would hop back on a plane to catch the train back in Tours. But, before I ate some lavash escargot (way better than last time). By the next morning, I had some amazing quiche for breakfast in Strasbourg. Next, I made the quick extra run to Innsbruck to meet the man I met at the start of my trip for some nice and cheesy kaspressknödel. After saying my swift goodbye, I was barely able to catch my plane for the UK portion of the trip.
When I arrived in Stansted, England, I scarfed down some hearty Lancashire hot pot for dinner. I would then board the train to have my midnight snack of tasty Scotch eggs in Lichfield, England. Next, I had some sweet crempog for breakfast in Swansea, Wales. Then I would make my way to London for a crispy basket of fish and chips (not much better than what you get in the states) in Tottenham Hale. Then I tasted some black pudding in Waterloo. To end my UK adventure, I took the train overnight to Dundee, Scotland and enjoyed some toad in the hole for breakfast before my flight to Cologne, Germany.
Unfortunately, I had boarded the wrong plane and ended up in Boston. Well, you know I didn't pass up the opportunity to have some New York-style pizza and check out the cool train station in Boston before catching the soonest flight to Cologne. After taking my delicious detour through Boston, I had myself some traditional rouladen for dinner. And luckily there would be a second train I could catch later to continue my originally planned journey through Belgium and The Netherlands. For my midnight snack, I had some fresh moules-frites in Brussels, Belgium. For breakfast and lunch the following day, I enjoyed some robust stoemp in Antwerp, Belgium, and some spicy bami goreng near the airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
By now I had tasted a lot of food, but I still had one more plane ride for the last train that would also be full of even more tasty treats. When I finally made it to Finland, I had a bowl of poronkaristys in Tekurila. After boarding the train, it would take me just shy of a day to reach Warsaw, Poland for some savory golabki. Thankfully, the next stops were not as far apart from one another, so I was able to enjoy a plate full of tiroler gröstl in St. Pölten, Austria when I woke up. Because of my large breakfast, I skipped lunch and had an early dinner in Florence, Italy of chicken cacciatore. For my penultimate meal, I went to Milan, Italy where I had one of my favorite desserts my Nonna used to make: Tiramisu. Finally, I took the train to Lausanne, Switzerland where I would spend the night and wake up to some crispy rösti and sausage.
I had a few hours to kill so I ended up reflecting on all the meals, that intriguing man I met in Innsbruck, the "quick" plane ride to Pamplona, the Boston detour, and that long trip to Warsaw. With so many different meals, they were hard to compare, so I gave up on trying to rank them. With a very full belly, I waddled onto the plane, plopped into my seat, and took a very long nap on the way back. I did wake up to enjoy my salty pretzel snack though.
Here are all the train and plane tickets that I didn't lose:
