Geocache Description:

Žale

Žale so območje nad starim delom mesta Kamnik.

Kapelice so bile postavljene sredi 19. stoletja in prenovljene v letu 1900.

Žale is an area above the old part of Kamnik. It is located above the central Evropa Park, and can be reached via the Šlakar Trail or the path from the park. In this area you can see the Monument to the Fallen of the First World War, unveiled in 1939 by the sculptor Kalin, the Church of St Joseph, the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, the main cemetery and Calvary with its four chapels and the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The town cemetery was moved from Šutná to Žale at the end of the 18th century. St Joseph's Church was built between 1677 and 1683. It was rebuilt in Baroque style in the first half of the 18th century. The Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre was built on the model of the Palestinian chapel. The Calvary was painted by the artist Matija Koželj. The chapels were erected in the mid-19th century and renovated in 1900. There used to be a castle in the area, called the Castle of Turn, but no remains are visible now.
