Cache Creation Education

There will be a table of "creative" caches on display to enhance the conversation about what makes a good geocache. There will be a number of different examples of cache creations at the event and we will explain how each of these have been made and the importance of creating quality caches for you as an owner and for the geocacher finding it.

Any cachers who have a "creative cache" that they would like to display are welcome to bring them for the event.

As a Geocacher, building a geocaching container and receiving positive comments on a find can be incredibly rewarding. It is a testament to your creativity, ingenuity, and hard work, and it shows that you are making a meaningful contribution to the geocaching community.

When other geocachers find your cache and leave positive comments, it can be a real inspiration to create and place more caches, as well as a sense of accomplishment. It is gratifying to know that other people appreciate your efforts and are enjoying the experience you have created.

In addition, earning favourite points (FP) can be particularly rewarding. FP are a way for geocachers to indicate which caches they think are particularly outstanding or memorable, and earning them is a sign that your cache is truly special. FP can also help your cache stand out to other geocachers, making it more likely that they will seek it out and leave positive comments of their own.

No one will be required to build a cache container. All are encouraged to at least give their input in what makes an enjoyable cache to find and makes you smile, laugh, award favorite points, tell others, etc.

Cache Quality and Placement

When creating and placing a cache here are some important points to take note of that will make for a quality caching experience. These will be discussed at the event including participation from attendees.

  1. Ensure that the cache is water proof to enable to finder to sign the log sheet. Many logs read log sheet too wet to sign.
  2. Place a cache in a secure place so that it will not get muggled easily. In high traffic areas use camouflage that blends in with the surroundings.
  3. If placed in a sensitive environment place the cache in such a way that the environment will not be damaged while being searched for, e.g. Ancient crumbling ruins, sensitive natural environment etc.
  4. Place caches in places that will take the cacher to a place of interest - wall art murals, waterfall etc.
  5. Permission to place a cache must be obtained from owners of the property and specified in the listing. It is embarrassing for a cacher to be confronted by an angry owner while looking for a cache.
  6. Do regular cache maintenance to maintain your cache in a good condition. Many logs read DNF cache missing or needs maintenance.
  7. When placing a cache always consider if it will make for an enjoyable cache find.
