The South Isis cemetery has long been closed to burials.
A major flood in 1942 demonstrated the flood prone nature of the low lying cemetery land. This would have been a compelling factor in its discontinuance as a viable cemetery.
The cemetery which is administered by Bunderberg council, is a place of historical significance having been delevoped in the 1870's with the first recorded burial in 1877. A group of local volunteers ensure that this serene place is maintained.
Although the cemetery covers 8 hectares you will only need to gather information from the board that lists the names of 58 pioneers who have died in the South Isis region some of whom are buried here.
