IL ROCCOLO CARCANO
Il roccolo (o uccellanda) è una postazione di cattura di uccelli migratori con reti,
diffusosi dal secolo XVIII, metodo di caccia vietato dal 1967.
Questo, di tipo "Bresciana", era di proprietà di Paolo Càrcano (1843–1918),
politico italiano, volontario garibaldino, Deputato e Ministro, Sindaco di Veniano.
Il luogo si trova nel bosco cosiddetto Monvallino (nord del bosco Vallino), all'interno dell'attuale Parco Pineta; è ancora visibile la struttura semitonda del roccolo, formata da doppie file di Carpino Bianco (Carpinus Betulus).
Sul lato nord giace un cumulo di macerie coperte da vegetazione: sono i resti del capanno in muratura facente parte dell'impianto, crollato da molto tempo.
Parcheggiare l'auto nei pressi del campo sportivo di Veniano.
A pochi metri dal cancello verde del campo sportivo inizia la strada agricola, che attraversa in direzione ovest vari campi coltivati.
Dopo circa 400 metri si entra nella foresta. Facili sentieri portano a raggiungere l'obbiettivo.
ATTENZIONE!
Il transito con veicoli a motore è vietato (vedere cartelli all'inizio del sentiero).
E' obbligatorio tenere i cani al guinzaglio.
Richiudere il contenitore della geocache premendo bene il coperchio sui 4 lati e rimetterlo al suo posto, nascosto alla vista dal sentiero.
THE ROCCOLO CARCANO
The "roccolo" (or "uccellanda") is a location for catching migratory birds with nets,
widespread since the 18th century, a hunting method banned since 1967.
This one, of the "Bresciana" type, was owned by Paolo Càrcano (1843–1918),
Italian politician, Garibaldian volunteer, Deputy and Minister, Mayor of Veniano.
The place is located in the so-called Monvallino woods (north of the Vallino woods), inside the current Parco Pineta; the semi-round structure of the roccolo is still visible, formed by double rows of white hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus).
On the north side lies a pile of rubble covered by vegetation: these are the remains of the shed in masonry forming part of the plant, which collapsed a long time ago.
Park the car near the Veniano sports field.
A few meters from the green gate of the sports field, the agricultural road crosses various cultivated fields in west direction.
After about 400 meters you enter the forest. Easy trails lead to the target.
WARNING
Transit with motor vehicles is prohibited (see signs at the beginning of the path).
It is mandatory to keep dogs on a leash.
Please close the geocache container by pressing the lid tightly on all 4 sides, and put it back in its place, hidden from view by the path.
