Geocache Description:

Name: ANF-McKean-Quadripoint Monument

September 24, 2023, marks 100 years since the establishment of the Allegheny National Forest.  To commemorate this historic milestone, the ANF Centennial Geocache trail has been established to provide an opportunity to connect the American public to the outdoors, encourage families to explore the national forest, and provide educational and recreational opportunities for users of the trail.   We encourage you to join the fun, enjoy the adventure, and learn more about your national forest while respecting and protecting our natural resources!  The Allegheny National Forest includes land in four Pennsylvania counties (Elk, Forest, McKean, and Warren Counties).

This geocache is one of a total of 28 ANF Centennial Geocaches placed throughout the Allegheny National Forest.  In order to complete the GeoTrail, you must find at least 5 ANF Centennial Geocaches in each of the four counties which include part of the Allegheny National Forest. Each cache will contain a unique laminated code word to be found on the logbook, to be written in your passport as proof of finding the cache. Please remember to write the code word on your passport before or after signing the logbook, and return the logbook to the cache container when finished. The next person who finds the cache is also going to need it!

Please remember to also log your find on geocaching.com after you find the cache and tell us about your adventure or anything that you found interesting during your visit.  Please post pictures of your visit to the Allegheny National Forest as well with your log or on social media sites.  Before setting out to find the ANF Centennial GeoTrail caches, you will need an official passport document. Passports are free and can be obtained by downloading and printing the passport document from the website www.pennsoil.org

From time to time, most of us have had conflicts where we needed to be in two different places at the same time! Wouldn’t that be great if you could actually be in both places at the same time and the conflict was resolved!  Would it even be possible to be in four places at one time?  The answer is undeniably –Yes, it is possible!   Many people are aware of the four corners monument where the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah all intersect at the exact same spot. This is defined as a quadripoint, or a point on Earth where four distinct political territories meet at a single location.  This particular geocache will bring you to a quadripoint in the Allegheny National Forest at the point of intersection of all four counties which contain lands of the Allegheny National Forest.  The four counties (Warren, McKean, Elk, and Forest) that form the Allegheny National Forest intersect near FR 443.  There is a small monument dated 1902 that notes this intersection.  You can almost stand or kneel in one place and be in all four counties at once. See if you can do it and enjoy a nice photo opportunity to stand at the corner of each county.

Access:  From State Rte 948 turn east on Fork Run Road (Township Road 333) and then follow this road until it becomes Forest Road (FR) 443.  There is small pull-off along FR 443 about 300 feet before the road crosses a large power line. Do not park on the power line or block access to oil, gas, and power line infrastructure. It is a moderate hike downhill to the monument (0.1 miles) and the monument is located on the large powerline.

This is a letterbox hybrid cache.  There is a stamp and an ink pad to use to stamp your own book, but please leave these these items in the cache for the next person to use.  To find this letterbox hybrid go 60-75 feet from the monument on the azimuth (or bearing) of 10 degrees.
